title: "Project Pythia Joins the NumFOCUS Community as an Affiliated Project"

We are excited to announce that **Project Pythia has been accepted
as a NumFOCUS Affiliated Project!** This recognition marks an important
milestone for our community and reflects Project Pythia's growing
impact as an open, community-driven resource for geoscience education
and scientific Python.

Becoming a [NumFOCUS Affiliated Project](https://numfocus.org/sponsored-projects/affiliated-projects) recognizes Project Pythia's
commitment to open science, community governance, and scientific
computing. NumFOCUS affiliation provides opportunities to engage
with a broader network of open-source scientific projects, participate
in community initiatives, apply for selected funding opportunities
such as Small Development Grants and Google Summer of Code, and
increase the visibility of Project Pythia and its contributors
within the scientific Python ecosystem. Affiliated projects remain
independently governed while benefiting from the collaboration and
support of the broader NumFOCUS community.

This achievement is a
testament to the incredible work of our contributors, maintainers,
instructors, and community members who have helped Project Pythia
grow into a trusted resource for geoscientists around the world.
We are grateful to everyone who has contributed tutorials, reviewed
content, organized events, mentored new contributors, or participated
in our community.

As we look ahead, we are excited to strengthen our connections
across the scientific Python ecosystem and continue expanding access
to high-quality, open educational resources for Earth system science.
We look forward to collaborating with the many outstanding projects
in the NumFOCUS community and continuing to build an inclusive,
sustainable future for geoscience education.
