Hey guys, are you 8 or what ? They put a lot of effort trying to improve UX and all you have to say is shit ?
At least, tell them what you like or dislike and why !
I like the new UI because it is clearer and underlines every field with its documentation.
The only thing that disturbed me is that you chose to display decoder and not the decoder. But I guess it's a matter of preference.
Maybe the switch between two should be more visible ?

I like the new version a lot more. It looks a lot better on smaller displays and looks more straightforward. Maybe a little bland in contrast. But I guess that's the trade-off between "flashiness" and simplicity.

Old UI allowed to paste a token string spanning over multiple lines and including whitespace. New UI accepts first line of pasted content only! Big drawback.

For me the issue with new UI is that I find it harder to do some simple task I used to do on a daily basis. For example, I used to do a lot of copy and paste, such as pasting a JWT and editing its claims, secret or algorithm, and then copying the result. I tried the new encoder and I cant find a way to edit claims of a token I pasted

The UI is okay once you get used to it, but maybe add a dark mode? it hurts my eyes especially when I'm going back and forth between dark apps and this UI. Oh and maybe revert the font sizes to the old sizes if there's no specific reason behind that choice? 😊

Hey guys,

I understand how disappointing the reaction here can be, and I hate to say, I felt like I opened the wrong site first time I saw the UI change a month ago. Since then I kept going back and forth between the old and new ui, and still I'm unable to get used to it.

Given that I mostly see the wish to rollback to old UI, this feels like a clear feedback and statement from the community. But I would also like to ask, what problem did you guys set out to solve with this new UI updates? Was there a clear request to improve it or lack of certain features, if so, where are those people? Otherwise this feels like the UI was there for years and you thought it is time to refresh prematurely, and bring a well oiled machine to a stall.

For whatever its worth, here are my points;

In the old UI

• The black hero area was taking so much space unnecessarily, I never liked to have to scroll down.
• Once scrolled down, the sticky header was too high without any reason.
• Never once used "Share JWT" button ever in the last 8 years and it is the only element that is screaming out for attention with no reason.
• Signature validation was a bit hard to make sense from the get go, as it starts with a verified state
• When there is a valid jwt in the encoded area AND adding one letter into signature input removes the jwt altogether for no reason I could understand so far..
• Font weights, balance and colors play an important on this UI and I think is one of the most important aspects why people like to keep this UI

In the new UI:

• I like that the hero area is now much slimmer.
• I don't like the sticky note looking like banners that replaces the hero area. I want to get rid of them but they don't disappear completely. There is an X icon to collapse them but adds no value, especially collapsing one and the other is still there makes it even worse as it creates imbalance.
• Regarding typography, I see where you are going with it, I like it as an aesthetic, but I hate it as it is not functional. The low font-weights is making it really illegible and hurts the eye.
• Now the encoded side has the same font-size as the decoded side, which levels both sides and makes it harder to focus on one side.
• Too much clutter on the right side as you have separated the sub headings
• Too much clutter in and around signature box
• Do we need to constantly see "Copy" buttons? I see 5 times "Copy", why wouldn't it show up on hover on desktop devices/breakpoints? Same for Clear and maximize/dialog buttons. It would reduce clutter
• The pale color palette hurts the audience a lot as people who use jwt.io for years would go to the page tens of times a day and we have registered the red/pink/blue colors in our brains, now suddenly seeing some other palette, makes our brain take a 5 second "hold on! where am I?" break.
• Weeks later I realized the headers are actually buttons and toggles the page altogether, "JWT Decoder" & "JWT Encoder". This is simply invisible to the eye.
• JSON & Claims Table buttons, I feel like these could also go away or become a single button somewhere on the same line as the sub headings or only show up when hovered. I understand you want to add so many niceties here and there and that's great, but some how the overall packaged version doesn't rhyme well.
• Aggressive/Eager signature validation feels redundant. Most people are coming to this page to decode jwt, not verify, your numbers must be saying this already, so why make something that is maybe used 5% of the time, a visual problem for 95% of the people.
• There is a "Share feedback" button with an auth wall, if you are really looking for feedback, make this more accessible, do you really need auth to get a useful feedback to make the product better? You're losing on valuable insight.
• Reducing clutter between the rows of right column should provide more breathing room as everything now looks super small with thin fonts.
