A discussion to share what I've been actively working on behind the scenes for LeanType and to get your thoughts on the direction we're heading.

• Currently, my main focus is on fixing bugs that affect the core functionality of the keyboard. Once those are ironed out, I will transition to improving and adding new features.

• Since we are now included in F-Droid, I don't want to be updating the metadata yml daily. Therefore, I will be moving to a weekly release schedule (with the exception of critical hotfixes).

Feel free to create issues for bugs and feature requests like usual! However, please keep in mind:

• I am currently not planning to take on feature requests that compromise the overall stability of the keyboard or deviate too far from core keyboard functions.

Adding too many features can make the app bloated and unstable.

When requesting a feature, please make sure it's genuinely useful for everyone and worth the effort, rather than just a gimmick. Thanks for understanding!

This might not be the best spot for this but I figured you could copy what you wanted and I can delete it.

Here are some HeliBoard commits, I noticed certain settings missing and tracked down what I could. Not all the features had commits and I don't know if you are staying in sync with HeliBoard or not, but I was digging anyways. 🤷🏻‍♂️

HeliBoard commits

1. bottom row scale.
2. clipboard size limit file, no commit
   1. fix clipboard size query for older android versions.
3. key gap scale and fix gap scale
4. scale emoji key size with font size
5. rapid typing cool down. File, no commit
6. add setting to avoid autocorrect after pressing shift to capitalize suggestions

Here are some pull requests, I was looking for those relevant to the edit mode, and kept looking. A few are features I know people will ask for sooner or latter, but there are a couple I thought rather interesting: Add pure-Java gesture typing fallback, and Modernization and Feature Implementation. The gesture typing because the google library is rather bad, and the modernization has a ton of work, to much for Helium314 to ever take that on and it would be sad to see so much work die, but I don't know if it is any good or how difficult it would be to merge those two into a test build — I'd do the testing to see how they perform if you thought I worth your time 🤷🏻‍♂️

i implemented the gesture engine, currently the gesture need to be too precise to type any simple words even 3 letter words.

That is a bummer.

did an AI generated Swype algorithm, I tested the apk, it was accurate but far to laggy, easily stops working if you type over ten words a minute but the accuracy wasn't bad. The "plan" in their repository has some good ideas for Swype typing. FUTO keyboard's implementation is actually really good as far as the gesture goes, some backward engineering needs to take place, but they dump on it with probabilistic prediction and inserting the language model to early and the gesture just gets thrown out, literally — the gesture preview will show "I'm" and then you lift your finger and you get "in" and I use an apostrophe on the other side of the keyboard 🤷🏻‍♂️ and that's an example that's within reasonable, at times it's like it is playing scrabble 😂

this needs lots of optimisation, lets not make this as default for now, but an toggle in the gesture library for user to choose

I just went through my personal dictionary and removed a lot of non words: words added while I was doing text editing layouts, things like "width, and the " is part of the word, the numbers for width like 0.15. Lots of garbage.

But that isn't the kicker. I've been having a heck of a time getting LeanType to gesture well on my custom layout so I checked HeliBoard and it seemed better 🤷🏻‍♂️ then I turned off the "personalized suggestions" and boom! Swipe typing much improved, next word suggestions totally gone, and tap typing not so good, though I really don't care about any of that because I'm pretty hardcore swipe typing.

I checked this stuff because, killing some time, looking through the recent commits I noticed helium314 had several pertaining to dictionary improvements and gesture typing.

Personally I don't really care one way or another as I usually manually add words to my dictionary, ocd 🤪😂, and I'm happy that suddenly the Swype typing is doing much better so I don't have to switch keyboards back and forth all the time, though I thought you might want to know.

The new gesture is working great! Seriously 😱

Maybe because of my limited <80,000 word dictionary or my layout 🤷🏻‍♂️ that I'm still a little slow with 😂 or that I keep a redundant personal dictionary of the words I actually use, ~6k.

You added gesture learning to it? Does that learning require "personalized suggestions" enabled?

If you are open to doing a little more optimizations with it I have a few ideas 🤔

Also, are you ready four bugs concerning the editing node?
